National Boxing Organizations Sign Agreement

amateur-boxingThe two prominent national boxing organizations in the country recently signed on to the compliance agreement of the Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission (BADC). The Amateur Boxing Federation of The Bahamas (ABFB) and the Bahamas Boxing Commission (BBC) brought the number to six, the established sporting organizations that have signed the agreement. BADC Chairman Dr. Jerome Lightbourne expressed satisfaction over the signings and noted the positive trend in bringing around the national sports groups to the understanding of partnering with the BADC in its “Clean Sports” mission.
bahamas-boxing-commission-9-03-13The signings took place during a symposium, organized by the ABFB, and the two bodies joined the Bahamas Cycling Federation, the Bahamas Powerlifting Federation, the Bahamas Softball Federation and the Bahamas Association of Athletics Associations. Arranging for the signings was BADC Director of Public Relations Fred Sturrup. On hand also were BADC Director of Education Roscow Davies and Director of Sports Tim Munnings. ABFB President Wellington Miller and BBC Chairman Alvin Sargent signed on behalf of their respective organizations.


That the BADC is responsible for making and implementing rules for controlling the occurrence of doping in sports and for carrying out the objects of The Anti-Doping in Sports Act.

These include:

1) Initiating, implementing and enforcing the Rules and the
doping control process.
2)Testing of athletes,
3)Arranging for the analysis of samples.
4)Managing test results.
5)Maintaining information on athletes and their
6)Educating all stakeholders about the consequences of
violating one or more of the Anti-Doping Rules.
7)Assessing costs for disciplinary hearings
