BADC and NSA Launch Community Initiative for Young Athletes

Nassau, The Bahamas — May 21, 2026 — In a powerful display of collaboration and commitment to the future of sports in The Bahamas, the Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission (BADC) and NSA Bahamas have partnered on a community service initiative aimed at supporting and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

The initiative, conceptualized by BADC Executive Director Petra Haven, focuses on the development of young athletes through education, empowerment, and access to resources. Through this partnership, much-needed sports equipment will be donated to three primary schools across The Bahamas — one school in New Providence and two schools in the Family Islands — helping to create opportunities for students to engage in sports and physical activity.

The initiative extends beyond simply providing equipment. During each school visit, BADC will deliver a brief and engaging Clean Sport education session, introducing students to the values of fair play, integrity, and competing the right way from an early age. To conclude each event, NSA Bahamas will provide a hot lunch for students in attendance, creating an experience that nourishes both minds and bodies.

“This initiative represents much more than the donation of sports equipment,” said Petra Haven, Executive Director of BADC. “It demonstrates what can happen when organizations unite around a shared purpose. Athlete development begins long before athletes step onto national and international stages. By investing in children at the primary school level, we are planting seeds that can shape not only stronger athletes, but stronger individuals and communities.”

Today marked the first stop of the initiative with a visit to Sybil Strachan Primary School, where students enthusiastically participated in activities and discussions surrounding clean sport and athletic development. The atmosphere throughout the day was one of excitement, gratitude, and inspiration. Students were engaged, teachers expressed pride in the initiative, and everyone in attendance walked away impacted by the experience.

Representing BADC at today’s event were Dr. Christa Wells, Chairman of the Board; Andretti Bain, Olympic and Commonwealth Games Silver Medalist, Pan-American Games Gold Medalist, two-time NCAA Division I 400m Champion, and BADC Board Member; as well as Lael Johnson, Education Associate at BADC.

Representing NSA Bahamas were Moses Johnson, General Manager; Reginald Forbes, Deputy General Manager; Depatra Gray, Human Resources Manager; Jevonne Williams, Marketing Manager; Jeron Williams, Event Manager; Nyroka Smith, Website and Social Media Coordinator; and Marcus Rolle, Assistant Security Manager.

BADC and NSA Bahamas extends sincere appreciation to Ms. Thompson of Sybil Strachan Primary School for her support and assistance in helping make the day’s activities a success.

As the initiative continues its journey throughout The Bahamas, both organizations remain committed to strengthening communities and ensuring that young athletes have the tools, knowledge, and encouragement needed to succeed.
